My World Tuesday

The Upper Belvedere hosts exhibitions of famous Austrian art, among them painters like Klimt, Schiele and Kokoschka (Visit Belvedere's Homepage - it's really great!)

The Lower Belvedere resembles Prinz Eugen's magnificent living quarters. Representational rooms like the Hall of Grotesques, Marble Gallery and Golden Room, offer a fascinating insight into Baroque interior design - JUST WONDERFUL!!!

Prince Eugene of Savoy (picture: Wikipedia)
is the man behind Schloss Belvedere,
he built the Baroque juwel with the wonderful view over Vienna!

Prinz Eugen von Savoyen (1663 – 1736),
one of the most prominent and successful military commanders in European history,
born in Paris,
but fighting for the Habsburg Monarchy against the Ottomans and many others - read more about his life at Wikipedia.

After that,
walk through the Prince's splendid gardens,
caress the Sphinxes :)
look back over the city of Vienna,
ascending the hill!

Thank's for joining!

Visit entires all around the globe here:

Maria, Austrians, Vienneses particularly don't have to envy us about architecture or History. How rich is your past Maria; That's wonderful.

Hi Maria. Sorry for not dropping over for so long. I've had slow internet and half your gorgeous photos don't load but now . . .I have fast internet and they are stunning. I remember being here. . it's the most beautiful place and apparently the faces on the griffins are those of one of the owner's lovers! Well that's what we were told. Stupendous.

I love your photos, I have never seen this palace, Belvedere. I found your blog via Jeannette and your Easter Eggs Market post. This drew my attention as my last post was about my visit to an Irish Belvedere - Belvedere House is in Co. Westmeath in the Irish Midlands, and it is a relatively small Palladian Georgian Villa. If you visit my blog you will see it. It is not nearly as imposing as your Belvedere, how did I miss this 35 years ago when I visited Vienna on my Inter-rail tour of Europe Mainland!
