Brenda's Photo Challange - Old

Sycamores wereAustria's Empress Sissi's favourite trees.
Therefore, Vienna's famous Ring Straße is lined with sycamores.
The trees were planted around 1865.
Quite old!

But this sycamore is still older.
I guess it is at least 200 years old.

It is one of Vienna's 429 registered natural monuments
and it is my favourite tree in Vienna :)

The town administration's environmental section keeps a list of natural monuments which are under special protection.

Presently, an underground garage is being planned nearby.
An expertise will examine if the garage could harm the old tree's root system.

I do hope that no garage will be built at all
and that people will use public transport instead of cars!
In Vienna it is NOT SO DIFFICULT to do completely without a private car.

An OLD wish of mine...

Click on the image above and you will find many more old things from all around the globe!
Have a nice weekend!

Sky Watch Friday - Vienna's fog

Last Tuesday we had a foretaste of a typical foggy November day here in Vienna.

You better forget about your depressions :-)

Watch St. Stephen's West towers and the South tower dissolving in the fog!

The frontal view of the south tower

Awesome!
Fortunately, there is still some red and blue colour left!

Please feel free to watch brighter skies:

Have a nice weekend!

Vienna Sky Walkers - Marchfeldkanal # 2

Again a walk along Marchfeldkanal!
15 minutes by train from Vienna's city centre to Langenzersdorf.

The beginning of the canal is the starting point of our tour.

The canal was planned as a very ambitious project, it should be functional and also close to nature.

Well, I think it looks quite romantic!

Idyllic paths along the water,

and sometimes the canal broadens like a lake.

This is where we see our first Marchfeldkanal-Heron!

It looks romantic nearly all the time.
But sometimes the canal follows a noisy motorway.

You can't see it, but you hear it!

But here we take a nice picture:
Brigitte with her walking sticks and me with the camera in the mirror!

And here is also much room for climbing plants!
These blossoms looked so beautiful against the pale sky!

Then we pass by some "affordable apartments offered by housing cooperatives".
I don't know how to translate "Genossenschaftswohnungen",
nor does LEO online dictionary :)

There are some orchards nearby,
with black trunks and golden leaves.
The canal is still on the right side of the path.

Red vines climb along the fences,

Canada goldenrods (solidago canadiensis) and pale blue morning glories,

and some sunflowers .

We give up: it is raining so hard, we are wet all over!
Fortunately, the next bus stop is not far away!

The whole trip was within Vienna's city limits!

If you want to see our first trip along the canal from Deutschwagram to Vienna , please follow this link!

Today's flowers - Fairy's Bouquet

Have a look at Today's Flowers!

I brought this cute little fellow's cousin from Greece to Austria :)
I think that's OK in the European Union!

Sky Watch Friday - Viennese Skies

Finally, after spying the skies in Paris, on top of Olympus and even in Norway,

***
I proudly present you a view of the sky in Vienna!

To the West!
If you follow the boulevard you will arrive directly at the city centre.

Eastward!
On the horizon flows the river Danube.

South!

Southwest!
We are on the roof of Austria's Federal Economic Chamber!

Here a closer view of Kahlenberg with the domes of the two museums, the towerof the Rathaus (city hall) between them, and Votivkirche (two towers right)
(I dont' know what building this abysmally ugly chump with the crane is!)

Russian orthodox church with its golden domes.

And this is the house where I would love to live: in the etage under the roof with its giant bay window and also in the etage below with the great balcony!
Keep your fingers crossed for me!

See more skies around the whole globe
but nowhere as thickly clouded as here in Vienna!
