Vienna Sky Walkers - Marchfeldkanal # 2

Again a walk along Marchfeldkanal!
15 minutes by train from Vienna's city centre to Langenzersdorf.

The beginning of the canal is the starting point of our tour.

The canal was planned as a very ambitious project, it should be functional and also close to nature.

Well, I think it looks quite romantic!

Idyllic paths along the water,

and sometimes the canal broadens like a lake.

This is where we see our first Marchfeldkanal-Heron!

It looks romantic nearly all the time.
But sometimes the canal follows a noisy motorway.

You can't see it, but you hear it!

But here we take a nice picture:
Brigitte with her walking sticks and me with the camera in the mirror!

And here is also much room for climbing plants!
These blossoms looked so beautiful against the pale sky!

Then we pass by some "affordable apartments offered by housing cooperatives".
I don't know how to translate "Genossenschaftswohnungen",
nor does LEO online dictionary :)

There are some orchards nearby,
with black trunks and golden leaves.
The canal is still on the right side of the path.

Red vines climb along the fences,

Canada goldenrods (solidago canadiensis) and pale blue morning glories,

and some sunflowers .

We give up: it is raining so hard, we are wet all over!
Fortunately, the next bus stop is not far away!

The whole trip was within Vienna's city limits!

If you want to see our first trip along the canal from Deutschwagram to Vienna , please follow this link!

Vienna Skywalkers - Marchfeldkanal

My friend Brigitte and me take the Schnellbahn to Deutsch-Wagram, 10 miles northeast of Vienna.
It is 5.50 pm.

We cross the Danube,

Donauinsel and the New Danube,

Vienna's city express highway,

and 20 minutes later we arrive in the village Deutsch-Wagram.

"Marchfeldkanal"!
We will follow it over a distance of 9 miles until we reach Vienna.

Here is the biking and hiking route along the canal.

This is one of the weirs regulating the water of the Danube.
The canal supplies a large agricultural area, the Marchfeld, where Vienna's vegetables grow, with water.

The canal was built 25 years ago following ecological principles.
It's embankment is not always dead straight and is overgrown with regional trees and bushes.

One of the blue bridges that lead over the canal.

The dog enjoys thousand smells and attractions, and we walk out quickly and exchange last week's news.

The colours have definitely changed during last week.
Autumn has come!

The best carrot ever!

Evening comes and the moon rises slowly over the melancholy landscape.

In the middle of nowhere a pizzeria,
and everybody enjoying one of the last warm evenings.

It gets dark, we see Vienna's city lights in the distance.
We still have to walk about an hour.

After this speedy walk of 9 miles, we feel phantastic.
The first long sip of cold beer is our reward!

Thank you for joining us on our walk!
