Winter at the Danube in Vienna

Finally winter has come to Vienna,
with extremely cold temperatures and even some snow.

I took a long walk with my dog along the shore of the Danube this afternoon and enjoyed the winter atmosphere.

Water birds had left their foot prints in the snow,

and D'ora followed the decorative patterns on the ice.

What a lovely picture!

We returned home when the sun set.

A doggy walk along the Danube

Last Sunday I took a walk at the Donauinsel,
the artificial island which divides the river Danube into two basins and thus protects Vienna from the floods caused by Europe's second largest river Danube.

In the distance you can see Kahlenberg and Leopoldsberg,

the most famous hills of the Vienna Woods within city boundaries.

The hills make a nice background for the fishing boat and the two friends enjoying a Sunday morning chat on the water!

Yippee! My dog enjoys to explore the coves where dogs are allowed to play freely!

Ah! The exciting smells of water, stones, grass and animals!

I'm looking for the Japanese Cherry Grove and nearly miss it.
After walking back for two miles, there is a sign:

The Cherry Grove!

Japan gave Vienna 1000 cherry trees as a present for Austria's 1000 years celebration (1996).
The trees were planted in 2002 and are still rather small!

It's still too cold for the blossoms, they are still closed!

Unfortunately this year's
cherry festival was cancelled because of rain.

We walk back to the riverside. A canoe silently paddles upstream.

Soon we notice that we are back in the city again.

Millennium Tower is our point of departure.
It makes a nice contrast to the natural environment we have enjoyed for the past two hours.

Another summer morning

As I have two weeks off, I take long walks with my doggy in the early moning,
walking towards a wonderful sunrise,

eastward along the Donaukanal,

heading for the Prater,

and its large green meadows

and old arms of the Danube (Heustadelwasser)

I also visit the swan family at the pond

and ... feel free as a butterfly :)

It's time for spring to come :)

Frosty blossoms!

Finally, Vienna's got it's first wintry temperatures:
-1°C!

I just returnd home from a morning stroll with my doggy through Stadtpark where I found all kinds of frosted leaves

spread on a daisied meadow.

Some bushes show their barren leaves and forgotten blossoms
in wonderful brown hues.

Fascinating daisy!
I think it won't stop blooming even when covered with snow:)

Between the houses on a sunny spot,
some yellow blossoms won't wait for spring!

In the park, the ponds are beginning to freeze up!

After two hours in the sun we walk home where my new book patiently waits for me,
MIDDLESEX, by Jeffrey Eugenides,
too absorbing to let me pay visits to you and thank you for all your good wishes :(
Please forgive me !

Look at that dog! Without a fear of heights!

Sometimes, my dog D'Ora makes me feel dizzy!

My World Tuesday - My Rainy Autumn Saturday Morning

I have labelled this part of my world "Doggywalks":
Saturday morning strolls with my dog through the neighbourhood!
Vienna, 1st district!
Join me on this rainy autumn day,

with rain heightening the colours of the fallen leaves :)

So please settle back and ENJOY!

Haha, George Clooney guarding Ringstraße and Stadtpark!
