Happy Easter!

Today my doggy and I went for a long stroll through Vienna's Green Prater. Although the weather was cold and rainy, we enjoyed the lonely walk along the old arms of the Danube. The fresh green leaves and white blossoms on the trees showed us that Spring was actually there.

At home we relaxed and ate boiled Easter eggs and ham, and watched a nice movie on TV: Ratatouille, the story of the adventures of the little rat Rémy gifted with some highly developed senses of taste and smell.

Dear friends, I wish all of you a happy and peaceful Easter time!

The ice is melting

The old arms of the Danube in Vienna are still covered with ice.

A mallard enjoyed the warm sunlight glittering on the ice.

Our dog D'Ora gave the cold water a first try.

The ice was still thick enough to carry nosy dogs,

lively ice-skaters and curious families.

Where the ice was gone,
mandarine ducks were courting their females.

Could this be Spring?

In den Praterauen

I took a long walk with my dog this afternoon in Vienna's Prater, along the old arms of the Danube, close by the centre of the city.
Come with us and enjoy the Autumn colours, and imagine the smell of decaying leaves!

A heron rose when we entered this magical world.

Another summer morning

As I have two weeks off, I take long walks with my doggy in the early moning,
walking towards a wonderful sunrise,

eastward along the Donaukanal,

heading for the Prater,

and its large green meadows

and old arms of the Danube (Heustadelwasser)

I also visit the swan family at the pond

and ... feel free as a butterfly :)

MWT - Vienna's Prater

Some views from Vienna's historic amusement park, the Prater.

I love the early evening hours in the Prater very much,
when the first lights begin to shine
against a soft blue sky.

On the merry-go -round and the roller coaster you are really close to the sky!

Early morning stroll to the Vienna Prater

In the first morning light, my doggy and me take a walk along Donaukanal to the Vienna Prater.
The Riesenrad and the roller coasters welcome us.
We are the only two souls awake in Vienna :)
At least, that's our impression!

The Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel

The Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel was built in 1897.

It is still the main attraction for families visiting the
Vienna Prater on Sundays.

The Ferris Wheel stands in the middle of a large
amusement park,
the "Wurstelprater".

And the large amusement park is in the middle of a large area composed of meadows, floodplain forests and backwaters of the river Danube, "The Green Prater".

Below you see "Prater Hauptallee", the main alley, 3 miles long and lined by chestnut trees,
not open for motorized traffic!

the starting point of this week's
TRIP OF THE VIENNA SKYWALKERS!

Ferris designed and built the first 264 foot (80 m) wheel for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois in 1893. The wheel was intended as a rival to the Eiffel Tower, the centerpiece of the 1889 Paris exhibition (Wikipedia).
