For 120 years now, the European Social Democrats and Communists celebrate the International Workers Day on the first of May with demonstrative street parades.
In view of the financial crisis, traditional social values - Liberté, égalité, fraternité - and social security, have become relevant issues again.

After all, a remarkable number of 100.000 participated in the parade along Vienna's Ringstraße and the final celebration at the Rathausplatz.

It was government meddling that caused the financial crisis here, with radical Democrats & Progressives insisting that folks get home loans when they could not afford them. The vast majority of citizens here are quite alarmed that USA is going the socialist road as our freedoms are eroded with the current administration and more government controls are put in place.
very interesting...
Cool, der Hund mit dem roten Haltstuch!

coming from an ex-communist country, I feel sick when I see this. it reminds me of the old times when we were forced to go out on the streets on the 1st of May to celebrate... brrrrrrrrrr... extremism, of any sort, is bad bad bad... and socialism is no better than any other :(...
Interesting but I liked the wetland post best. Peace
@ your comment on my blog: Maria, please, it was nothing wrong with your post! I am sorry if I used too rough words... I was just sharing a personal experience. The funny thing is that we prefer nowadays to consider 1. Mai as the first day of the summer seaside season, respectively the start of the grilling season. I am sure also that many young people (20 yrs of age and less) in RO don't even know it otherwise hahaha! best wishes, L.
