Austria's Christoph Waltz has won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a Nazi in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds."
Do you think he deserved to win?

By what my granddaughter said after watching the oscars with us last night (they have no TV) as he got the oscars: oh good, that's all I wanted to see, he really deserved it! She is a cinema goer. After that, she went back home, the rest was uninteresting
I think he did a great job and was very believeable. Others who have played such parts left you knowing they were only actors playing a part and he made you forget he was an actor. Thus he made the movie. It was very disturbing and I had a few sleepless nights thereafter but again he played the part well indeed. Peace
First I have to confess that Herr Waltz is a fellow countryman thus I am - of course - in favour of him. You wouldn't believe the comments around here claiming him for "us", yes, even Germany has done so (the kutzpah of that!)ignoring the fact that in order to survive as an actor he had to leave his home finally ending up in Germany. He deserves this oscar and the incredible amount of other awards, but he owes this to one fact only: his talent, zeal and experience that enabled him to master that challenging part. Where he originated from is of no importance. He owes us nothing,on the contrary: we owe him. For Austria luckily profits from all this so that we are no longer mistaken for Australia and hopefully it is no longer Hitler and Shoah that comes to people's mind when Austria is mentioned. Thank you very much for that, Herr Waltz!Danke, merci and grazie tante!
