Today's Flowers - Disteln und Enzian

Wollkopf-Kratzdistel (Cirsium eriophorum), the Woolly Thistle




And...
Schwalbenwurz-Enzian (Gentiana asclepiadea) - the Willow Gentian




On our hiking tour in the Austrian Alps near Styria's capital Graz,
two hours by car from Vienna,

we found many of these beautiful Alpine flowers
on the Alpine meadows of mountain Hochlantsch.

    Love your shots Maria! I didn't see what it was on the first shot, I thought you had an unknown species to show us! :)

    Thistle blooms are indeed pretty but not worth the hassle and barbs the plants create.

    I don't believe I've ever seen a woolly thistle before. Looks exotic to my eyes. I love gentians because of their gorgeous shade of blue.
