Today's flowers - Schneerosen and Pfingstrosen

Schneerosen - hellebores and Pfingstrosen - peonies!

On our hiking tour last weekend we found hellebores on places where the snow had just melted away.

In Vienna's botanical garden I found peonies some weeks ago.
Do they both belong to the family of roses as their German name suggests?

Many thanks to the Today's Flowers Team!

  1. LOL!!! It does show that you have no garden Maria. You do however appreciate beauty, nature and flowers. Maybe, which I assume, Your questin was tongue in cheek.
Helleborus, Paeonia, and Rosa are all of different genus.
    Love your alpine Helleborus.

  4. I was thinking "Edelweiss" when I saw those lovely white ones - but I have no idea! I don't have a garden either.......:)

Love the photos of the paeonia! They are also beautiful flowers! It is a pity they get so large and heavy, the fall down after a while.

  11. Maria,it is really nice to see the Hellebores growing in the wild just after the snow has partly melted away. The Peonies are beautiful. A long time ago in my mother's garden grew red Peonies.
